Earnestine & Hazel's

Ernestine & Hazel's is an inspiration. There is a creative energy that buzzes around the place like no other in Memphis. It has history. It has character. It has the most delicious drunken food ever made, the Soul Burger. It's also authentic Memphis. If you have never been--especially if you are from out of town go. You will not be disappointed.

The Murals at Binghampton Community Life Center

Tillman Street is one of the streets I take when I am commuting by bicycle. It's how I get to Broad Avenue (and then to Midtown or Downtown) after The Greenline ends. On this street is the Binghampton Community Life Center. The basketball courts there have recently got a new coat of mural paint thanks to the Memphis Grizzlies and artist Nosey42. I've been wanting to photograph these new murals for quite sometime. Since it was a gorgeous day to ride and I had my camera with me (and the now-essential fisheye lens) I stopped by and took some shots. You can find more of Nosey's work at his Instagram.

The Barista Parlor Art Wall

One of my favorite things about Nashville is something that you may not have noticed. I try to make it to Barista Parlor, an excellent—if intimidating—coffee shop, every time I'm town. They are known for their atmosphere, Nashville celebrity sightings and of course, their coffee. But what they might not be known for is that behind their sign (which is mounted on a large concrete wall) they have one of the best graffiti walls I've ever seen. Not only is the art work awesome, but it rotates at a pretty frequent clip. So often in fact I'm sure I've missed a lot of it. So the next time you're in Nashville and at Barista Parlor, instead of looking for Jack White and Dan Auerbach—have a cup of coffee and take a look behind the wall. It's likely you'll see some really great graffiti.

You can find my Barista Parlor album on my Flickr page.

Hey it's Hodges!

Make no mistake about it, Hodges is a lover. We have fostered him off and on over the past year and he is—without a doubt—our favorite Streetdog to date. Hodges LOVES people and people love him. He also loves couches (as you can see below), long walks and a KONG filled with peanut butter. Hodges is currently looking for a long-term foster so check out the photos below (and here) and if you'd like to meet him, go to the Streetdog Foundation page for more information.
